Eighty young people between three and twenty-four years of age came together at Bell for the annual Queensland Angus Junior Show.
The outstanding success of the two day event was made possible by a hard working committee, a large group of sponsors and generous cattle donors. With a focus on education, experience, friendship and fun the show is run by the Queensland Angus group to develop the youth of the beef industry.
Participants listened to speakers on a wide range of topics including animal preparation and show ring etiquette, the opportunities in Angus Youth, commercial and stud cattle selection, meat cuts, and public speaking. Competitions included junior judging, cattle and parader classes.
New awards offered this year to continue to develop the youth were two scholarships to attend the beef cattle assessment course in Dalby and three awards to attend the Angus Youth National Roundup in Glen Innes in 2010.

The herdsman competition was sponsored by Rabobank, represented by Michael Webber, Rabobank, Dalby. Age division winners were Shannon Elton, Darby Ryan, Andrea Schulz, Renae Burton. Champion herdsman was Tonya Hayward while Jackie O’Sullivan was awarded reserve champion.

The winners of the Dalby cattle assessment school scholarships were Andrea Schulz and Shannon Elton with judges Shelley Piper and Matt Cherry.

Roundup award recipients were Perry Fletcher, Lachlan Woods and Renae Burton.

Placegetters in the under 11 years junior judging were Lachlan Keevers (3rd), Lachlan Woods (4th), Cody Ryan (2nd) and Jake Iseppi (1st).

Placegetters in the 11-12 years junior judging were B.J. Schwerin (3rd), John Hayward (2nd), and Kaiti McGregor (1st).

Placegetters in the 13-14 years junior judging were Karl Freeman (2nd), Jack Griffiths (1st), Steph Nash (3rd) and India Patch (4th).

Placegetters in the 15-16 years junior judging were Sarah Wolski (3rd), Anna Tickle (2nd), Shannon Elton (1st) and Cameron Fowke (4th).

Placegetters in the 17 years and over junior judging were Stuart Hobbs (2nd), Cayb Schwerin (3rd), Perry Fletcher (4th) and Andrea Schulz (1st).

Encouragement award winners were Nathan Ballinger, Richie Tickle, Alex Minors and Matt Klaasen (front).

Lucas Mogg received an encouragement award.
