Abbotsleigh Angus is located at Wyreema on the Darling Downs and breeds bulls and females for the Queensland industry.
The stud was founded on Ardrossan bloodlines and with the use of the best Australian and US AI bulls in the Angus breed has a strong genetic base.
The objective is to produce structurally sound cattle of moderate frame with strong growth and carcase quality. Fertility in the females is a paramount consideration with only those cows which rear a calf every year remaining in the herd.
Emphasis is placed on performance recording through the use of Breedplan technology to monitor progress in the herd and to select the best.
This breeding program has been successful as evidenced by achieving the top price for a bull at the Queensland AgShow in both 2006 and 2007.
Females have been shown successfully at local shows in S E Queensland, recently being awarded Grand Champion female at Warwick and Inglewood shows in 2009. |
